2. SMS and Messaging Consent

2.1 General Consent (SMS)

By providing your mobile number and using BuzzMeLater, you expressly consent to receive SMS text messages from BuzzMeLater, including:

  • Reminder notifications you schedule or enable
  • Account verification and login codes
  • Service-related updates, security alerts, and maintenance notices
  • Billing and subscription information

2.2 Consent for Toll-Free Numbers

You consent to receive SMS from toll-free numbers we operate (e.g., 1-800/888/877/866). This helps us meet carrier and regulatory requirements for toll-free messaging and deliver reminders reliably.

2.3 WhatsApp Business Consent (Separate)

You may separately opt in to receive messages from BuzzMeLater via WhatsApp Business, including:

  • Reminder notifications and updates
  • Account/security messages (e.g., verification)
  • Service announcements and support communications

You can opt out in WhatsApp at any time by replying STOP or using WhatsApp’s built-in blocking/reporting tools. WhatsApp messaging follows Meta’s WhatsApp Business policies.

3. Message Frequency and Content

Message frequency varies based on your reminder schedules and account events. Messages may include:

  • Scheduled reminder notifications
  • Account verification codes
  • Service/maintenance notices and security alerts
  • Billing and subscription information

We do not send marketing or promotional messages. Messaging is strictly transactional (e.g., reminders you schedule, account/security updates, and service notices). You can opt out at any time as described below.

4. Carrier and Regulatory Compliance

Your consent helps us comply with:

  • Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and CTIA guidelines (where applicable)
  • Carrier requirements for toll-free messaging
  • Meta’s WhatsApp Business policies
  • Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL)
  • Other applicable messaging and privacy regulations

5. Data Processing Consent

You consent to our processing of your phone number and related data for:

  • Delivering reminder services and transactional notices
  • Account management, authentication, and security
  • Service improvement, quality assurance, and analytics
  • Legal compliance and fraud prevention
  • Customer support and communications you request

6. Third-Party Service Providers

We use third-party messaging providers (including Twilio, WhatsApp Business API, and carriers) to deliver messages. These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and comply with applicable laws.

You may withdraw your consent at any time by:

  • Replying “STOP” to any SMS
  • Messaging “STOP” in WhatsApp or using WhatsApp’s blocking/reporting tools
  • Updating notification preferences in your account settings

  • Deleting your account

We process unsubscribe requests without delay and, where required by law (including CASL), within 10 business days. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.

10. Proof of Consent & Recordkeeping

To meet regulatory and carrier requirements (including toll-free verification), we may store proof of consent, such as the consent text presented, the page or flow where consent occurred, your selections (e.g., SMS and/or WhatsApp), timestamps, IP address/user agent, and related metadata. We retain this information for compliance, dispute resolution, and fraud prevention.

When you first receive messages, you’ll see disclosures like:

  • SMS: “BuzzMeLater alerts: reminder + account texts. Msg & data rates may apply. Freq varies. Reply STOP to end, HELP for help.”
  • WhatsApp: “You opted in to WhatsApp updates from BuzzMeLater (reminders/support). Reply STOP to stop.”
